Sorting and grading
Once collected, your items are sorted and graded by type and condition. Wearable clothing is separated from worn-out textiles, shoes from soft furnishings, and anything reusable is set aside for its next life.
This grading is what allows us to send each item to the right destination rather than treating everything the same.
Reuse comes first
A significant share of what we collect goes directly to charity partners, supporting local and national causes. Reuse is always the best outcome. It keeps the original garment in use and avoids the energy of recycling.
Good-quality items may also reach communities that need affordable clothing, extending their useful life for years.
Recycling for what can’t be worn
Items that are beyond wear aren’t thrown away. They’re processed into industrial cleaning rags, shredded for insulation and stuffing, or broken down into recovered fibre that can be spun into new yarn.
This is why we ask for worn-out textiles as well as good ones. They’re a valuable raw material, not rubbish.
Why it matters
Every year, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of textiles are thrown into household bins in the UK. Collecting and redirecting even a single bag keeps that material out of landfill and cuts the carbon and water footprint of making new clothes.
By booking a free collection, you’re part of a circular system where your old clothes become someone else’s next outfit, or the raw material for something new.
